Backcountry ski time...
The snow has been falling all season and we’re finally stealing the chance to go and do some back country adventuring. Whilst Bansko has always boasted great skiing for mixed abilities, the back country is something that is scarcely taken advantage of and is something we are super excited to start sharing.
We wake up to a breakfast of Snomadic champions (porridge with homemade plum jam, scrambled egg on freshly baked bread toasted on the open fire, locally produced yogurt and a cup of herbal tea, obviously also locally picked). Pack lunch packed, snow shoes and skins readied we head up the mountain and begin the climb.
A few hours later we enjoy a well deserved apple and a touch of Rakia in the sun and ready ourselves for a little more walking before the decent. Feeling all warm and slightly over confident we continue to track through the freshly laid snow, the sky bluer than an old school Smartie and an air of excitement building.
Finally we pause to take some breath and decide that it’s time to enjoy some skiboarding. Looking over we can see Bansko’s well groomed piests and really appreciate how perfect the resort can often be. The ski down lasts all of 20 minutes but leaves us all with sore cheeks from the silly amount of smiling that took place.
Exhausted and totally content we find ourselves back at the chalet, local beer in hand relaxing in the beautifully warm pool ready for an evening feast. Putting a price on this kind of day is difficult but with prices starting at £269 for a catered week it makes sense to at least come and give it a go!
